Music Business Advice - 3 Killer Tips to Conquer the Music Business
Need music business advice? Not sure where you are going? In this article, I'll share with you some tips and tricks that will help you to focus on spreading awareness and achieving your long term goals.
Do You Have The Talent?
Before you go any further, you need to make sure you have the talent. American Idol and similar programs are full of those sad people who think they are way better than they are and who are crushed when they are told that they are no good and will not achieve their dreams.
Don't become like these people. Check right now and ask yourself whether you have talent. Be honest with yourself. Even better, ask a friend to give you a brutally honest opinion. If you don't have the talent, keep playing for fun but don't try to make a living from your music.
Stay Independent
These days you do not have to do everything to try and get a record deal. You can definitely go it alone but you need to focus some efforts on the marketing side of things and be prepared to learn about it.
Too many bands and artists fall by the wayside because they "prefer to concentrate on their music". This is great if you want to work in an office the rest of your life and just jam in the evenings. However, if you want to be comfortable and make a living from your music then this ignorant attitude simply won't do.
Use The Internet To Your Advantage
Many new artists and bands are now coming from obscurity to the forefront of the media's attention purely down to online marketing. Case in point are the band, Arctic Monkeys, from the UK who rose to prominence using a very unique strategy.
They created a demo CD of 17 tracks and gave it away for free at gigs. Fans then ripped the tracks and shared them online. This led to loyal fans coming back to gigs, again and again, and being able to sing the songs too. Their MySpace page rocketed in popularity and all this was enough to see their debut single reach number one in the charts on its release.
