Phish Tickets – Finding Creative 'Joy' in All the Right Places
Phish has been reunited for only one year but that hasn't stopped them from breaking all barriers and creating one of the best rock tours in history. With a 29-show summer trek that will close off in October at Austin City Limits, the American jam band has officially returned. The summer jaunt jumps into action June 11 in Chicago and technically finishes in New York's Jones Beach, though they'll be out and about throughout the fall. If you hadn't gotten the chance to see these rockers during their first few years together, you're in luck as Phish seems to be back and better than ever. If you think that a reunion tour is the most adventurous thing Phish has ever done, you clearly missed their 3D film that debuted in April. Filmed at Festival 8 during the three day activities in late October at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, the group released a 3D film for a limited time to theaters across the country. Showing off their skills just months after getting back together, Phish's film captured all the fun of the three day event ' complete with their costumes on Halloween, Sunday afternoon's acoustic set and their Rolling Stones' cover of Exile on Main Street. Premiering in major cities like Boston for just a week, their creative side has clearly been opened and won't easily be contained.
It's been sheer mania for the Burlington, Vt. based group who returned after five years to a new world of rock and roll. Phish has been on the road supporting Joy with full gusto. With singer Trey Anastasio, drummer John Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon and keyboardist Page McConnell onboard for this "third time's a charm" gig, the group has seen unprecedented success in the 21st century. Joy, which was released in August 2009 with Jemp Records, was a reunion in all senses of the word as producer Steve Lillywhite returned for another time. As the first addition to Phish's sound since 2004's Undermind, fans saw little reason to complain and praised the album; eventually Joy made its way to Billboard's Top 20.
Formed in the '80s, Phish never paid much attention to the trends and formed instead on the merits of great rock and roll. The members were tuned in to legends like the Grateful Dead, and their free form of springy rock enabled them to maintain a steady audience and commercial sound through three decades. They gained their fame not through records and music videos but just like those whom they idolized ' by perfecting their live sound.
It wasn't difficult to listen to their music, of course, especially when their underground debut of 1988 passed through the hands of fellow free spirits. Sparking a generation's sound that focused on hippie jam bands, Phish improved their tactful lyrics and string sets with hundreds of performances' a feat their fans couldn't much complain about. See them perfect their live sound this year with Phish tickets today.
